I was fortunate enough to hit the window in late 2016 when traveling to Cuba was relatively easy for Americans. I came away with the impression that Cuba has developed amidst a series of outside influences that have swept in like waves then receded out again, leaving behind a changed landscape soon to be remolded by the next wave. In two weeks, I only caught a glimpse of the continuity of Cuban culture that has persisted, shaped, and been shaped by these outside forces, and seems a wonderful thing all on its own. I hope to return soon.
